This subject has been designed as an intensification of the general course on highway engineering (previously offered during the first term of the 3rd academic year) for students of civil engineering. Moreover, it pretends to be an introduction to airport engineering.
In this course we present, study, discuss and practise (with several course projects) with the knowledge of theory and practice on road tunnels and structures, road maintenance, pavement engineering, as well as planning and basic design of airport infrastructures.
The course explores the following concepts: essentials on design and construction of road tunnels and bridges, performance and structural design of pavements, M-E design and distress models, design of asphalt mixtures, inspection of pavement distresses, Pavement Management Systems (PMS), airport planning and design, and airport pavements.
